Exchange Sidings EM Gauge, 4mm:1ft
The layout depicts a set of industrial sidings near the end a small branch line in the Forest of Dean. The sidings serve a tin-plate works, which has its own shunting engine to fetch and return the wagons and move them around inside.
Whilst not based on any particular prototype, there were a number of similar locations in the Forest and the layout is inspired by images in the many books on the prototype.
The layout was designed to see what could be achieved by a group of modellers in a short period and although further work has taken place since, the core of the 3m x 0.5m layout and some of the stock was built in a weekend.
It is the Club's first venture in EM gauge - with a mixture of locos and wagons converted from OO-gauge and as time allows, kit-built engines and wagons are being added. The points are built using C&L components to plans drawn out in Templot. The trees are home-made from florists wire, plaster and a variety of foliage.
The layout is available for exhibition - for details contact Tom Cunnington
