Bulletin 500

Bulletin 500 aThe January  / February 2018 edition of The Bulletin marks a major milestone - our 500th Bulletin. Published every two months for our members and affiliated societies, it always includes a range of interesting articles written by members of the oldest and largest model railway club in the world.

Our Chairman Tony Cox says "The 500th edition of the Bulletin is a fantastic achievement. I would like to thank all of the editors down the years, including our current editor, John, for all their hard work. Also thanks to those involved in sending it out, from preparing the labels to stuffing the envelopes and finally putting into the post. All concerned deserve a massive pat on the back."

Our current editor John Jesson comments: "Over its 60 years the Bulletin has changed a lot, but, so has the model railway hobby. I wonder what the railway modellers of all those years ago would have made of what modelling is today? Computers, electronics and greater choice of materials have made so much possible; DCC, train detection and control, battery power, laser cutting and 3D printing, the list is almost endless. I wonder, also, what developments are around some future corner? Perhaps thought control, when all we have to do is think what we want to happen and it will? Fanciful? Maybe. But, as I've said, the hobby has changed a lot in the past, so there is no reason to think that technology will not provide  new ways of pursuing our hobby."

This landmark issue is on its way to members, and includes:

  • An update on the Club's best known layout, "Copenhagen Fields" - on how a layout can last so long and still not be finished.
  • A history of Flying Bananas, Hamburgers - and radio control for a model
  • Jack Nelson's LNW Modelling in North Wale
  • A look back to two of the Club's best known OO gauge layouts
  • A review of the Heljan Class 28
  • Happisburgh Goods travels to Tinkers Park
  • A look at a group called MOROP. (MOdelisme euROPeene) roughly translated as the European Union of Model Railroad and Railroad Fans
  • And updates from around the MRC.

The Bulletin is a bi-monthly publication sent to all members of The Club - new members are welcome
