2018/9 Lecture Programme

Thursday 11th October 2018 - Steam Locos In Profile - by Chris Eden-Green

Chris Eden-Green is a freelance filmmaker, and railway enthusiast at heart. Having spent some of his teenage years volunteer- ing on the Bluebell and Kent & East Sussex Railways, he started making films about steam locomotives in his early 20s. His trademark YouTube show ‘Steam Locos In Profile’, or SLIPs for short, has gained a loyal following since it was launched in January 201

The magazine-style series comprises of 15-20 minute films reviewing preserved classes of steam engine. Each film examines the initial concept, history, strengths, weaknesses, decline and revival of each class; around Britain and in Continental Europe.

Join Chris for an evening where he talks about the history of the production of SLIPs, including how some of his films have been crowd-funded by fans of the show and how some people have been converted to railway enthusiasm after watching the show. In the second half of the talk, a BRAND NEW episode of SLIPs will be premiered, followed by a Q&A session and the chance to purchase previous series of SLIPs on DVD.

Unlike most enthusiasts, Chris doesn’t have regional preference. If it runs on steam, he’ll film it, within reason!

Get Involved with "Orchard Wharf"

Orchard Aug 18Joining The MRC is a great way to learn from the range and wealth of knowledge of the other members, and getting directly involved in one of the layout groups is an even better way to learn and enjoy your membership.

We may not have a layout group that exactly matches your specific modelling interests, but most of layout teams have people with a wide range of tastes and experience, that come together because of the enjoyment of being involved in a collaborative project. Our new EM gauge layout is no exception.
