2018 Lecture Programme

Thursday 11th January 2018 - 7mm modelling , with the emphasis on Scale 7 Scale 7 pic Jan 18

MRC members Peter Mann and Tony Watts, together with John Borkowski , Chairman of the Scale 7 Group and owner of Masterpiece Models.                    

  • Peter will explain what Scale 7 is and why he made the change from finescale some 25 years ago , together with some general comments on building layouts in 7mm.
  • Tony will talk about scratch building of locomotives and also about modelling 4 wheel wooden wagons.
  • John will talk about how he goes about manufacturing very high quality locomotives in both Finescale 0 gauge and Scale 7.
  • Michael Druiett will talk about the Club's new Scale 7 project "Bow Works"

 

Thursday 8th February - Edward Thompson - Both sides of the story Feb 18 lecture image

Simon Martin unpicks the myths around Edward Thompson and examines the career of the LNER's Chief Mechanical Engineer in context. Thompson suceeded Nigel Gesley in the role, and led a standardisation programme during his tenure from 1941 to 1946. He is perhaps best known for the B1 class of locomotives.

 

Thursday 8th March - Spring Shorts IMG 5366

A series of short talks and demonstrations by members on a wide variety of modelling topics, including:

  • Building a fiddle yard turntable for "Empire Mills"
  • Automation of a DCC layout - as used on "Lacey Dale"

 

 

Non-MRC members welcome at all lectures, which start at 7.30 (unless stated), and with a short interval normally conclude around 9.15

Visitors are requested to make a suggested donation of £3.00, MRC members can attend any lecture free of charge.

All MRC lectures are held in Keen House, 4 Calshot Street, London N1 9DA.

Please note that Keen House has steps or stairs to all areas.
