We were delighted to be invited back to the Ilford and West Essex Model Railway Club’s exhibition “West Essex Modelrail” on 23/4 April, their 60th annual show. It took place at the St Edward’s School in Romford,
We were in a small pocket of EM layouts,
opposite Mike Bell’s “Prospect Wharf and Yard”,
next to Paul Egleton’s “Addiston Souith”
and Colin Wilson’s “Arlingham”.
But there was more 4mm fine-scale modelling, with “Nene Quay” in EM and “Seaton” in P4 in other parts of the exhibition. And a good selection of other great layouts including the last outing the host Club’s “St Alban’s Abbey”.
The I&WEMRC was formed in 1930, is one of the oldest in the UK. As the oldest club, we were delighted to be invited to this anniversary show, and to be there with a layout from one of the other pioneering clubs, Wimbledon MRC’s “Aldford Brewery”. It’s great that three of the oldest Model Railway Clubs continue to thrive in the area, despite all the alternative attractions in life, and the closure of so many model shops (especially in London), and all three looking forward to the future.
Meanwhile, Minories GN is now in its 10th year, with the 60th anniversary of the first publication of the plan in 2017. It will be running at our Open House on 8th May, and features in the April edition of British Railway Modelling magazine.
