Bulletin 489

The March/April 2016 edition of The Bulletin is on its way to members, featuring a range of interesting articles all written by members, including:

  • Martin Long on a visit to "The Buckingham Branch". Built by the late MRC member Rev Peter Denny, the layout is in a new home in Yorkshire.
  • Dave Coasby casts his eye over some value for money, ready to run O gauge locos - a good entry point into the 'senior' scale.
  • Following on from our display of Deltic locomotives in a range of scales at the recent London Model Engineering Exhibition, David Cross recalls his time driving the real thing from King's Cross.....and Paddington.
  • An update on progress on our new OO gauge layout - based on Ingatestone in 2014/5. You can see their progress at the London Festival of Railway Modelling in March.

The Bulletin is a bi-monthly publication sent to all members of The Club - new members are weclome

London Model Engineering Exhibition 2016

We are delighted to have been invited to exhibit at the London Model Enginneeing Exhibition 2016 - held over three days from 15-17th January at Alexandra Palace - also home of the London Festival of Railway Modelling in March. There is a large cross-over between model engineering and model engineering - not only at the 'big end' of model railways - such as live steam, Gauge 1 etc, but even the smallest gauges often require engineering skills to construct a working layout. DSCN1279DSCN1267So on our stand we have a display of Deltic locomotives from 5" gauge (about 1/11th scale) right down to N-gauge (1/148th scale) - the former weighing around 1.25cwt and definately at the top end of 'modelling'.

We also have a variety of demonstrators on the stand over the weekend showing the practical engineering as applied to various elements of modelling railways in a variety of scales, who are as alwats delighted to talk about what they are doing, and the benefits of joining The MRC.DSCN1269
