Automating Your Timetable

James Petts

Date

Thu 11 Mar 27

Time

7:30pm - 9:30pm

About this event

Running a model railway to a realistic timetable is now much easier than it has ever been because of advances in technology. Model Railway Club member James Petts has used artificial intelligence to create a user-friendly suite of scripts, “the Timetable Automation System”, for JMRI to make automatic timetabled operations straightforward. Both JMRI itself and the scripts are free and open source and available to the public.

Once JMRI is set up for basic automation, the Timetable Automation System can easily be installed and set up. This lecture will explore how to set it up and use it and its development and features, including a “time warp” to skip over the boring parts of the timetable when no trains are running, integrated day/night lighting and public information displays, both synchronised with the timetable. The N gauge micro-layout, “Maesteg” (pictured), which has been used as a test-bed for the System will be on display giving a practical demonstration of the system in operation.

This is a hybrid lecture in person at Keen House and on Zoom.  There is a bar that is open before, after and in the intermission serving a range of snacks of drinks. Please complete the form to the right to indicate if you’d like to join by Zoom.

MRC members and guests are all welcome. A suggested donation of £3 either in person or on our virtual coffee page

Please note there are stairs to the meeting room – anyone with accessibility needs is asked to contact us in advance.
