About this event
Richard Hinchcliffe is the co-author, with Bill Wagner, of Flying Scotsman in America: the 1970 Tour, published by Amberley. He is the son of Railway heritage pioneer George Hinchcliffe, O gauge model railway builder, manager of Steamtown, Carnforth, and famously manager of Flying Scotsman for both Alan Pegler and Bill McAlpine. Richard’s presentation covers his own experiences with his mother, Frances, and his father, and, Flying Scotsman in America, the lead up to the tour, the aftermath, the rescue and the heroic return. Richard’s own story is interwoven with that of the world’s most famous locomotive in a series of surprising, illuminating and often hilarious encounters. Richard was recently one of the main characters in the recent two-part Channel 4 programme The Secrets of Flying Scotsman.
