The London Festival of Railway Modelling is the capital’s premier exhibition, held every March at the fabulous Alexandra Palace in North London.

 

The next show is on Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th March 2016, and we’re delighted to confirm that the following layouts, representing a wide range of scales and prototypes, have accepted our invitation to attend. There are also a wide range of demonstrations of modelling techniquies, and around 100 stands selling a huge range of items. Plus we have an exlcusive special offer for new members only available at the show – come and see us on Stand 3.

Modelling Demonstrations: 

We also have a widen range of demonstrations to provide advice and ideas to modellers. On the MRC stand 143 in the West Hall, we will have:

Jean-François Laccassaigne, showing how to produce elements to construct scale buildings using 2-D & 3-D CAD programming, and computer-driven milling & cutting machines. He’ll show this while working on elements out of styrene and/or card for two or three buildings (a low-relief modern warehouse, a low-relief church and a third structure (either a platform signal box or another railway building). Eric Sainte will show how to use those elements plus Styrene profiles (Evergreen, Slaters, etc.) on a PVC Foam Board base to create the building, also showcasing techniques to emboss such foam board to depict irregular brick and stone work. I’ll also showcase how to paint & weather such buildings with Vallejo’s acrylic paints.

Also over the weekend we will be showing 

• John Emerson on 7mm loco and coach bogie construction.
• Mike Tucker onf building construction from card and Weetabix (TM), 
• 4mm wagon construction;
• weathering,
• conversion of a Hornby loco to EM

On Stand 161, the MRC’s 2mm section will be working on part of Copenhagen Fields, showing how they create the award winning modelling – a chance to see bits of the layout not normally in view.

The Scale7 Society (stand 159) will be showing how to build track and design your own etches, whilst the S Scale society (celebrating its 70th year) will be demonstrating its brand new debut plastic kit – a 1907 RCH 7-plank end poor PO wagon.

DEMU will be inpsiring the everyday modeller of the modern era to achieve better, including wagon weathering, scratch-builidng scrap loads for wagons, painting coach interiors, installing flashing tail lights and some westhered stock to talk about techniques.

The EM Gauge Society will be demonstrating a range of kit and scratch buiding techniques using white metal and etched brass, how to convert stock to EM gauge, and how to add extra detail to make models look more realistic, plus on the Sunday how to build track.

And we have demonstrations of how control your layout through electronics and/or computers from MERG; the Scalefour Society showing you how to take the next step in 4mm scale modelling, and the NMRA will be encouraging you to try out US modelling.

We hope the demonstrations inspire you to try a new technique – the teams are there to explain what they are doing, and provide free advice.

 

The Model Railway Club works with Warners (publishers of British Railway Modelling) to organise the 40 layouts which represent the best of the hobby, as well as the modelling demonstrations, club and society stands and also provides the stewards. Please remember, the Sunday is always quieter than the Saturday which makes it even more enjoyable – especially if you are bringing children. We look forward to seeing you.
